Glass is the whole idea here. It is borosilicate, non-porous and made by hand, with a rounded tip, a faceted middle and a wide faceted base. Nothing in it vibrates and nothing needs charging, so what you feel is the shape and the hard, smooth surface of the glass.
Glass does not give the way silicone does, so it suits someone who wants firm and smooth and is happy to go slowly. It can chip or crack if it is dropped or knocked against a tap, which is the real cost of owning one, so store it on its own and look it over before each use. If you want something that flexes or hums, this is not it.
Using it
- Wash it and hold it to the light before the first use, and feel along it for rough spots.
- A water-based lubricant, and more of it than you think.
- Lubricant makes glass slippery, so keep a firm hold and stay away from hard floors.
- Go slowly, and stop if anything feels rough or sharp.
Looking after it
- Warm water and a mild soap, then dry it. The listing says it is dishwasher safe, but washing it by hand keeps it from knocking against other dishes.
- Store it on its own, wrapped in a soft cloth, because glass against glass or against a hard drawer chips.
- Glass can crack in a sudden temperature change, so no microwave, no freezer and no boiling water. A chip, a crack or a rough edge means it is finished, so stop using it.
